All About Me

Oh hey, let me introduce myself! My name is Jocelyn Felicia Kurniawan and am enrolled in Deakin College. I’ve chosen my blog to be recreational, as my target audience ranges from teenagers to young adults.

Living in the 21st century, we’re basically surrounded by technology as well as the expanding course of digital media. Social media is no stranger to anyone nowadays, as gadgets are seen in everyone’s hands or pockets. This includes Twitter, with its 335 million users. My decision to set up Twitter was quite challenging as I’m not technology savvy. As a student, at first, I need to have a professional name as well as username. Afterwards, a profile picture is chosen. To decide upon which picture to use, I’ve chosen an appropriate individual picture that can be both professional as well as recreational. I’ve noticed that the evolvement of media has significant impacts, such as employment. Nowadays, employers tend to see your social media baggage, meaning your online presence. This goes hand in hand with copyright. Copyright is just giving credit to the owner or writer of the site, thus if plagiarism has occurred, it could be the end of your career. As for the blog, I have decided to use another site other than WordPress as Wix is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Having said so, I’ve realized how taste of each person is uniquely altered. Having an eye for detail, I’ve tried to make it as minimalistic as possible to suit my target audience as mentioned above. This also involves pictures to accompany the text about who am I as a person as well as articles written by me. Pictures chosen includes individual and family pictures, to create a wholesome atmosphere that could be enjoyed by my target audience. As my target audience ranges from teenagers to young adults, I have tried to sound more inviting and exciting as opposed to professionalism, or in other words monochrome.

I have learned about the evolving nature of the media from print to digital media, and how one, primarily media students, has to be engaged with media. Having said so, I have contributed to the unit by making a Twitter profile, which is something new to me. Twitter is a platform where news is distributed and so, it was quite an eye-opening experience to have news first hand just by opening up the application. Another thing is copyright, that I have considered to appreciate others’ work by giving them recognition that they earned through citing them.

My plan is to have more online presence in the future by posting more pictures while raising awareness using my social media platform, particularly Instagram. Nowadays, the digital platform can cause both harm and good. It is up to us to either embrace it or deter people around us. Since I have been diagnosed by an eating disorder, I have used my thousands of followers to raise awareness that fear towards food shouldn’t be taken lightly because some people out there may have the same experience as I did. Thus, broadly in the future, it is a dream to work in the media industry.
